The 4 litre drinker for a small flock
Four litres in a sealed, wall-mounted reservoir, and one Lubing cup on the front. Each cup holds a little clean water and refills itself as the birds drink, and the rest of the supply stays shut away from feet, droppings and sunlight. It holds the same two days of water as the twin-cup version, for a pen where birds come to drink one at a time.
How long 4 litres lasts
An average hen drinks around 500ml a day, and up to a litre when it is genuinely hot or she is laying hard. So a full 4 litres is roughly two days for four hens in mild weather, or a day for eight. In a heatwave, halve that and check it morning and evening.
Litres and cups are two different things
The litres decide how often you refill it. The cups decide how many birds can drink at the same moment. One cup, so one bird drinks at a time. Neither number is a flock size. If you want to fill a drinker once and leave it for the week, look at the 20L drum drinkers or a mains pressure drinker that never needs filling.
Why the water stays clean
An open bowl is dirty within the hour: a hen stands in it, scratches litter into it, and the sun grows algae in it. Here the water sits in an opaque, closed container and only ever reaches the bird through the cup. Rinse the cups when you refill and the flock is drinking what came out of your tap. Clean water is the cheapest thing you can do for laying and for keeping parasites and gut problems out of a coop.

The float is the part that does the work. It refills the cup automatically as the level drops, so the birds always find water at the same height instead of having to press anything. They do not need to learn a mechanism; most flocks are drinking from it within the hour.
Where to mount it
On any solid wall: timber, sheet metal or masonry, using the brackets and screws in the box. Set the cups about level with the back of your smallest hen's neck; taller birds dip down. Put it in the shade if you can. Cool water is what the birds want on a hot afternoon, and shade slows algae. One cup or two?
Same 4 litre body, same fittings. One cup is right for a flock of up to four or five, or a pen where birds drift over one at a time. If several hens tend to want a drink at the same moment, or one of them guards the water, the twin-cup version gives a second drinking position from the same body. Two coops? The twin pack gives you two drinkers in one order.
